Copper for a Better tomorrow

Copper is an essential component in the computers, servers, tablets, and smartphones that keep people connected. Demand for copper is increasing as the world transitions away from carbon-based infrastructure to electric vehicles and renewable power like solar panels and wind turbines. The typical battery-powered electric vehicle requires approximately four times more copper than a conventional internal combustion engine vehicle.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda is asking countries to accelerate the transition to an affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy system by investing in renewable energy resources, prioritizing energy efficient practices, and adopting clean energy technologies.

Copper helped usher in modern civilization thousands of years ago and has been contributing to the advancement of humankind ever since. It is affordable, adaptable, and ever present – an essential and necessary part of modern life today and tomorrow.

Mineral Resources

Rugby Resources Limited searches for minerals that can help meet future generation’s living needs. We undertake comprehensive studies in the areas where we are exploring to ensure our activities are harmonious with the environment and people. Our skill set is specific to exploration and excludes taking discoveries to a mining stage.

Defining a mineral resource requires determining the quality and quantity of minerals present along with extensive research into the needed protection of the natural environment and society needed where the resource is discovered. The purpose of all this research is so that in the future governments and communities can make informed decisions on a possible project based on facts.

Copper Shortfall

The timeline from outlining a copper resource to the production of copper metal is a long one. Extensive environmental and social assessment and review procedures involve interdisciplinary cooperation between a company and government agencies. It is estimated that the existing copper resources combined with the resources from new copper discoveries will be insufficient to meet the future requirements.

Cobrasco - a Potential Clean Sustainable Source for Copper

Rugby Resources has evolved to make copper exploration our priority. This is a response to an urgent need to develop new sources of copper to fulfill requirements to transition toward a cleaner more sustainable energy supply.

In Colombia, Rugby Resources is developing a team with the skills needed to accomplish a copper discovery for Colombia. The Cobrasco Project has the potential to define a significant copper resource, similar in scale and importance as those in Chile and Peru.

Cobrasco is a large-scale copper-molybdenum accumulation located in the western cordillera of Colombia. There has been almost no exploration conducted since the 1980’s when stream and rock sampling identified potential for a significant copper accumulation. Rugby is conducting environmental and social studies, as well as geochemistry, and geophysics with the goal of evaluating the mineral occurrence through subsurface exploration to determine the copper resource potential.

The discovery of copper resources in Colombia will advance the counties goal to participate in the global transition toward a low carbon future.
